EDMONTON SOCCER ASSOCIATION ISSUES A WARNING
The Edmonton Soccer Association is disappointed to report that staff has been encountering multiple issues while enforcing the QR code and mask mandate policies as part of the Restrictions Exemption program. The last several weeks have been emotionally taxing for facility staff as they have been exposed to a multitude of issues related to protocols that are beyond their control.
“Our indoor soccer facilities have been encountering multiple attempts to enter the centers without showing the required proof of full vaccination QR code to staff. In some cases individuals have verbally abused our staff who are simply enforcing the requirements established by Alberta Government under the Restrictions Exemptions Program. In a few cases this has involved physical contact and threats.”
Adrian Newman, CEO, is issuing a public warning that such actions will not be tolerated and our organization has commenced the issuing of facility bans, fines and performance bonds. “The vast majority of players, coaches, officials and spectators are cooperating and complying with the QR requirements. We will not allow a minority of individuals to ignore these requirements and potentially risk further shutdowns. Currently, our facilities are back at 100% prime time utilization Monday to Friday and 85% to 90% on weekends.”
Staff and administration are hopeful that they will move quickly through this adjustment period and report being grateful for their patrons, players and officials that are consistently kind and respectful and ensure that they are meeting the requirements of the program.
Thanks,
Adrian Newman
